Despite Corgi’s long history in Canada – from the very first Corgi Toy in 1956 right up to the present day – it is only now that membership of the Corgi Model Club has become available to those above the 49th parallel. This website is a joyful celebration of the ever-growing Corgi Model Club editions of 1960s and 1970s era Corgi Toys – a carefully curated collection of die-cast models from our ‘Golden Age’.
Early Corgi Toys were of mainly British marques, primarily intended for a UK-based audience. However, as the Sixties wore on, more American vehicles started to appear in each eagerly anticipated Corgi catalogue. Children became mesmerised by the US cars they saw on TV and at the movies, so Corgi started producing die-cast models of these exciting vehicles – such as the iconic Oldsmobile Sheriff Car and the exuberantly styled Cadillac Superior Ambulance. Quickly catching kid's imagination they were hugely popular and sold in the hundreds of thousands. Nevertheless, it wasn’t until the mid-1960s that Corgi actively turned their attention to the USA, the innovative features of Corgi Toys quickly taking the States by storm!
There is little doubt that in those halcyon days, Corgi Toys were the best of the best, building a reputation that has remained now those children are adults, looking back with an ever-increasing glow of nostalgia. And rightly so!
By 1965, the increasing popularity of TV and movie themed models – heralded by that year’s feature-packed James Bond DB5 – helped Corgi Toys gain iconic status around the planet. Credibility among your friends certainly wasn’t harmed if you owned a rocket firing Batmobile or Bond Aston Martin with its famous working ejector seat!
Take some time to peruse the collection of legendary die-cast Corgi Toys we have built these last few years. Each one marvellously replicates a model from Corgi’s heyday, faithfully recreating each and every feature of an original Corgi Toy, from the heavy die-cast metal bodies to the carefully modelled high quality plastic details and interior. The miniature tyres are of course as per the originals, with features such as Corgi’s legendary ‘Glidamatic’ suspension and fully glazed windows!
Holding one of these beautiful models in your hand instantly transports you back to your childhood. That’s an absolutely priceless feeling.
We’re rightfully proud of this collection and know that you’re going to absolutely love it too. Each model comes in its period-correct packaging, perfect for displaying alongside it. Also included is an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity together with a history of the model in question.
We hope our collection brings back fond childhood memories of cherished time spent with friends and loved ones.
And as Corgi said back in the day, why not “collect them all”?!
Happy collecting from all at the Corgi Model Club!
